About Ernest Kgasoe

Visual Artist, Ernest Kgasoe, was born in the rural village of Mabeskraal on the outskirts of Rustenburg. His creative talent and interest in the arts developed at an early age. Ernest's work caters for the audiences of all ages and covers a wide range of genres from oil paintings to uniquely designed furniture. A deeply talented and passionate artist, Ernest's work is both rustic and spectacular.

Ernest specialises in oil painting of which his favourite subject is that of rural scenes, depicting ordinary people leading ordinary lives. Due to the elementary nature of his subject matter, his paintings are complemented with wooden frames, which are carefully designed so as to not interfere with the natural shape of the wood.

Ernest's unique framing technique inspired him to begin painting on wood panel, a method which now contributes to a large portion of his work. Ernest's experimentation with wood has led him to explore other materials, such as utilitarian artefacts, bones, metal and cast-off wood from roofing and door frames. The combination of all these divergent materials has certainly resulted in a range of sensational products.

Ernest has also ventured into the manufacturing of artistic furniture, and has produced coffee tables, TV stands and other household items. As a result, Ernest's studio workshop has proven itself to be immensely captivating and popular amongst a broad spectrum of cultures and mixed audiences.
